ReadBorn Beginners — Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

ReadBorn Beginners ("we," "our," or "us") is a children's literacy application for ages 4–6 that helps kids learn to read by sounding out letters one-by-one to bring cute baby animals to life. This Privacy Policy explains what information ReadBorn Beginners handles and how it is protected.

2. Information We Collect

ReadBorn Beginners is designed to collect as little information as possible. The following data is handled entirely on the child's device:

• Reading progress — words read, reading accuracy, creatures hatched, and story completion data, stored locally on the device only
• Voice audio — processed on-device by Apple's on-device Speech framework. Audio is never transmitted to or stored on ReadBorn or Apple servers; only the recognized text is used to check reading accuracy
• Purchase history — managed by Apple via the App Store and StoreKit. We do not directly process or store payment card details

3. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

ReadBorn Beginners is built for children aged 4–6 and complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA):

• We do not collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent
• We do not show behavioral advertising to minors
• We do not share data with third parties for marketing purposes
• We do not integrate third-party analytics or advertising SDKs
• Voice processing happens entirely on the device
• Subscription management requires a parent or guardian

4. How We Use Information

On-device reading data is used solely to power the reading experience and to track progress locally on your device. Subscriptions and in-app purchases are processed through Apple.

5. Third-Party Services

ReadBorn Beginners relies only on Apple platform services:

• Apple App Store — distribution
• Apple StoreKit — in-app purchases and subscription management
• Apple Speech framework — on-device speech recognition

We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or tracking SDKs.

6. Data Storage

All reading progress and app data is stored locally on your device. We do not collect or store your data on our servers.

7. Camera (AR Hatching Overlay)

After a child completes a story and an egg hatches, ReadBorn Beginners offers an optional augmented-reality moment that overlays the newly hatched baby animal on the live camera feed. This feature uses expo-camera and requires explicit camera permission from a parent or guardian. Camera frames are rendered on-device only and are never recorded, saved, uploaded, or transmitted to ReadBorn, Apple, or any third party. The camera is active only while the AR view is on screen and stops as soon as the child leaves the screen.

8. Speech Recognition

ReadBorn Beginners uses Apple's on-device Speech framework to listen as the child sounds out letters and reads words. Audio is processed on-device and is never transmitted to ReadBorn or Apple servers. Only the recognized text is used, in real time, to check reading accuracy, and that text is not retained after the reading session ends. Microphone access requires explicit permission and can be revoked at any time in the iOS Settings app.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects when changes were last made. Continued use of ReadBorn Beginners after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
